In the framework of the First Chilean Meeting of Mycology held on September 5 and 6 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Chile, Dr. Ana Aguilar, researcher of the Soil Biological Restoration program of Ceres Center, participated with the presentation “ Diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in organic agricultural systems in the Mediterranean area of ​​Chile ”.

During the presentation of the regional center professional, the researcher presented the results of various studies she has done to date, collecting information on the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in vineyards, polycultures, the effect of forests on fruit trees and apple trees .

Viviana Salazar, founding mycologist of the Chilean NGO Micófilos and a leading national researcher, labeled this first meeting as successful, where several professionals and researchers attended to present their work, fulfilling the objective of building networks and collaborative ties. “I am very happy and, in the future, I hope that mycologists in Chile will continue to work collaboratively. Together, this initiative will grow and add more people, exchanging roles and strengthening our research topics, not only in Chile, but also abroad ”she said.

Likewise, Dr. Solange Torres, researcher at the Department of Botany at the University of Concepción, participated with the conference “Fungi as a promising source of biologically active natural products”, held at the Laboratory of Chemistry of Natural Products, entity that Ceres center He has been working on a collaborative agreement for future studies together. “These instances are enriching for academic training, generate research ideas and are inspiring for new generations who are venturing into the wonderful world of fungi” she said.
